This year’s events will take place at the Harold Walters Nature Center instead of the Blackwater Falls State Park Conference Center. Currently, the Lodge is undergoing renovations which include new windows throughout the building, updates to guest rooms including new bathrooms, and a facelift for the front desk, lobby, gift shop and restaurant areas. A few weeks ago, I was notified by Blackwater Falls State Park management that the renovations had gone over schedule and the Lodge guest rooms and dining area would not be ready in time for Astronomy Weekend. To compensate for this, Blackwater Falls State Park has offered to hold seven two bedroom cabins for Astronomy Weekend attendees for a 10% discount ($145.00 per night plus tax) until August 9th. After that date, the cabins will be released to the public. Contact the Lodge to see if larger cabins are available. There are also other lodging possibilities in the area. Canaan Resort has rooms and cabins available and two restaurants. Alpine Lodge has 44 rooms and includes the Sawmill Restaurant. Bright Morning Inn has 7 rooms and has Milo’s Restaurant that offers breakfast and lunch. There are also numerous places to eat in the Davis/ Thomas /Canaan area including Canaan Valley BBQ, Siriani’s Pizza (2 locations) Wicked Wilderness, Big John’s Fixins’, Big Belli Deli, Muttleys, Amelia’s Restaurant, Subway, Mountain State Brewing and Tip Top. We are beginning the process of setting up our guest speaker schedule and will notify you as soon as it is available. If you have any questions, let me know. I can be reached by e-mail at: email@example.com. We hope you will join us at Astronomy Weekend 2021!
