DESCRIPTION:The Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area will be hosting its annual Discovery Summit at Snowshoe Mountain Resort from September 18th-19th. Join us at Allegheny Springs at the top of Snowshoe Mountain on Thursday\, September 18th\, to come together with those who have an interest in\, and are doing the work of\, preserving\, interpreting\, and showcasing all the significant features of the AFNHA region. On Friday\, September 19th\, we’ll host behind the scenes tours of three important sites in Pocahontas County. \nRepresentatives for Thursday’s presentations include: \nForest Service – restoration of the Mower Tract by the Monongahela National Forest \nGreenbrier Historical Society – understanding West Virginia as an Island Nation \nFort Warwick Restoration – Archaeology and history of colonial era fort \nSnowshoe Mountain – the transition of Snowshoe lands from a sprawling logging operation to the region’s top skiing and mountain biking destination. \nThe Nature Conservancy: the mission to boost the economy and help nature thrive in West Virginia. \nCentral Appalachian Spruce Restoration Initiative: Red spruce restoration efforts \nCacapon Preservation Solutions – the relationship between the WV tannery industry and Appalachian resources to shape local economies \nTour sites: \nGreen Bank Observatory \nFort Warwick Historical Site \nCass Scenic Railroad State Park \nFor more information and to reserve tickets\, please visit https://www.appalachianforestnha.org/conference.
