Autumns Agenda

Vibrant summer foliage is now giving way to an unsaturated landscape, popping with Goldenrod in bloom.  Tucker County is in natures slow transition period known as September.  One of the most glorious months of the year exemplifies those days you live and travel for.

Perfect overnight temperatures in the 50’s are met daily with sun and warmth.   September is a gem of a month for hikers and mountain bikers searching for dry trails and relief from summer’s heat.   A night spent outside under the stars and dark skies of West Virginia is an experience everyone should try at least once.

September is a great time to visit Tucker County’s famous Dolly Sods Wilderness.  Crowds have dissipated and early fall color is beginning to stand out.  In particular, scarlet red blueberry bushes make for a surreal scene across an otherwise green landscape.

Get away with a festival the last full weekend of September for the annual Run For It 5k and 3k Walk and Leaf Peeper’s Festival September 22nd – 24th.   The morning starts with Tucker County’s largest fundraising event with a running and walking race through the town of Davis..   Sign up individually or join a team to support non-profits through the region.

Whether it’s handmade creations, classic cars, firemen’s parade, or bounce houses, there is a wide array of fun for everyone during Leaf Peepers Festival.  Live outdoor music is also on schedule throughout Saturday.  Octoberfest is celebrated as well with a beer and tasting tent with locally produced ales, lagers and Meade wine.

End one of the best months of the year at Timberline Mountain starting September 29th with Artober Fest.  Over three days, artist’s turn the mountain lodge into a celebration of creativity, nature, and fantastic people!   During the same week, head to our county seat for the annual Parson’s Volunteer Fireman’s Homecoming Fair.  Enjoy carnival rides, live music downtown under the stage, and much more.
