Mountainside Music Series 

The summer Mountain Side Music Series has been going strong for three consecutive years at Canaan Valley Resort.  At their ski area, a perfect natural hillside amphitheater is surrounded by a patio perfect for dancing, Quenchers Pub and day lodge.  

All of the shows are Friday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and are completely free.  This means more money for food and drinks from Quenchers Pub.  With that being said, Canaan Resort is generous enough to allow you to bring coolers, lawn chairs, and whatever else that makes your evening enjoyable. There are several more Mountain Side Music Series shows before the closing Labor Day Weekend event.  We hope to see you there!

Pickin’ in Parsons Bluegrass Festival

For a true taste of Appalachia one should start with traditional bluegrass concert.  In Tucker County there is no better way to do this than to attend the acclaimed Pickin’ in Parsons Bluegrass Festival.   The festival always occurs during the first week of August, this year’s dates are from August 1st through the 5th. 

The 2023 Pickin’ in Parsons Bluegrass Festival is held at Five Rivers Campground in the small town of Parsons, WV.  Camping and RV’s are welcomed by the hundreds as this festival has become a rite of passage for many over the years.  Come for a day or stay the entire week, tickets are always available.

Tucker County Fair

While we are still in Parsons, head to the Tucker County Fair August 20th – 26th for the annual event.  Enjoy livestock viewing, pageantries, live music and country cooking.  While you are here for the fair, get in the spirit on a guided horseback ride with Mountain Trail Rides or Saddles and Smiles.

Moonlight on the Falls Marathon

For the very best in running races we are fortunate to have the Canaan Valley Running Company as part of our community.  A few years ago they came up with the idea of a new event called the Moon Light on the Falls Marathon.  With Blackwater Falls State Park as the backdrop, Canaan Valley Running Company pulled off another top-notch event with a mid-night marathon.

This year’s half-marathon begins Friday August 26th at 10:00 p.m. and is completed by 3:00 a.m.  For race registration click HERE.  

Revenge of the Rattlesnake Mountain Bike Race

For almost 40 years Davis, West Virginia has been hosting one of the nation’s oldest mountain bike races.  The Blackwater Bicycle Association puts on this historic event August 20th this year.  For the best Canaan Mountain and Moon Rock can deliver head over to their website at BBA.com.
