Chip Shots FootGolf is the Bee’s Knees

Who We Are

Family fun has found its place with Chip Shots Footgolf in Dry Fork, West Virginia. Just a short five minute drive south of Canaan Valley State Park is the nine-hole footgolf course on WV Route, also known as Dry Fork Road. Owners, Paula and Tim Worden opened their home and farm in 2015 with a novel idea and ambition to provide fun experiences for all ages and abilities.

Since 2015, a “tiny club house” has been constructed along with picnic tables and generous parking area. Inside the club house there is even a hole-in-one board with a spot for your name. Don’t hesitate to make that shot of a lifetime! Chips Shots Footgolf is also the bargain of a lifetime when it comes to golfing. Eight dollars to play 9 holes and 18 holes (or unlimited) for twelve dollars.

What It’s About

Footgolf, yes it is one word, is played with a soccer ball. The hole is a little wider than a five gallon bucket. Chip Shots Footgolf have dozens soccer balls to choose from that come with your green fees. Age appropriate size soccer balls are also available. If you prefer to bring your own soccer balls, by all means, have at it. The only thing Tim asks is to please do not wear soccer cleats. Score cards also come with the price of admission.

Chip Shots Footgolf links are located on a generational farm started in the 1860’s by Paula’s family. To say the least, the grounds are fertile and fairways are impeccable. Cut to a standard any traditional golf course would find satisfactory. Then there is the rough, it is the real deal and will throw a curveball into that perfect game. Each hole is also marked by appropriately numbered flags with plenty of room for your future hole-in-none. My grandpa used to say this, I could not help myself.

Paying attention to the task at hand is not easy when while walking the course. Mountain views for miles are the backdrop on a quintessential Tucker County farm. Dolly Sods Wilderness and Weiss Knob are seen to the north. While West Virginia’s sixth highest peak at 4,770 feet, Mount Porte Crayon, flanks Chip Shots to the west. Add in rustic barns and the big sky setting is something out of Little House on the Prairie.

Late last summer I met up with Frostburg State men’s soccer team while they were taking a rest day in Canaan Valley during pre-season. Figured this would be a good chance at getting some quality footage and maybe a hole-in-one. These aces managed to get around 6-8 single kick holes. It was awesome to watch and the enthusiasm among teammates reminded me what sports, fun and comradery are all about. This is living!
