Hunting takes place on three public properties which are listed below. They are the Monongahela National Forest, Little Canaan Wildlife Management Area, and Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
Anglers know Tucker County as a hallmark for trout fishing. The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources takes this to heart, their trout stocking program provides ample supply to our rivers and streams throughout the county, year round. Easy fishing access points for the physically challenged can be found at the Thomas City Park fishing pier, Davis River Front Park, and Department of Natural Resources pier on Camp 70 road. At the pinnacle of your fishing game? Native Brook trout and the streams Brook Trout call home are elusive, yet obtainable in a few Tucker County Streams. Red Run catch and release is a fly fishing only zone located off of Canaan Loop Rd. (FR 13), and is probably the only publicized location in Tucker County. It is not that there are no other native Brook stream in Tucker County, it is now up to you to do the research and spend the time earning the right to catch such a cherished prize.

The final options is one will satisfy both the first timer and seasoned outdoorsmen. Laurel River Club B&B sits in the honey hole of Jenningston, WV along the banks of the Dry and Laurel Fork rivers. Canaan Trout Ranch, located minutes south of Canaan Valley Resort, is a private lake stocked with trout for your angling and eating enjoyment.
