When Winter Doesn’t Cooperate, Follow OUR Lead

It’s raining when it should be snowing, so what are we to do?!  We are glass half-full type of people here in Tucker County, and we have the answers for you.

1.  Go Ice Skating

Canaan Valley Resort and State Park have a full size outdoor ice rink that is covered.  They are open seven days a week with occasional ice skating performances through winter.

2.  Take In Blackwater Falls State Park

Make it your mission to visit every overlook in the park.  Drive the entire park and stop at all 7 amazing views.  Take a pic and use the hash tag #gettuckered to possibly be featured on our social channels.

3.  Shop Till You Drop

Make a point to step inside every one of the shops in Davis and Thomas.  The two towns are located 3 miles from each other and are home to dozens of small businesses.

4.  Explore Our Country Roads

Take a drive to either Seneca Rocks or Elkins, West Virginia to kill half-a-day.  Both are pretty drives with destinations you may never have otherwise visited.

5.  Play a Board Game

Pick up easy fun and hours of entertainment at Ranger Janes in Thomas, WV or Dollar General in Davis.

6.  Brewery and Distillery Stops

Some offer tours, others offer drinks, all have product for sale!  Stop in Mountain State Brewery, New Heritage Distillery, Stumptown Ales, and Still Hollow Spirits.

7.  Arcades, Indoor Swimming and Laurel Lounge

With two kid friendly activities and cool sports bar everyone can get a little fun in at Canaan Valley Resort.

8.  Explore Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge

Begin at the brand-new interactive visitor center in Canaan Valley.   Have an expert guide you on where to adventure next over their 16,000 acres of wildlands.

9.  Live Music at The Purple Fiddle

Regarded as one of West Virginia’s Premiere live music venues, this is a must see no matter the weather or time of year.
